Attorney Gerald M. Welt to Be Recognized With Lifetime Achievement Award From Nevada Justice Association

Attorney Gerald M. Welt, who has advocated for Nevada's citizens for over 45 years through his law practice, his Nevada Justice Association membership and his contributions to the legal community, will be recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from Nevada Justice Association (NJA) in June.

Welt has lobbied for laws that improved the rights and quality of life for citizens of Nevada. He served as a chairman and member of NJA’s Citizen’s For Justice Committee, made presentations about Social Security Disability at People’s Law School and served as a President and board member of that professional organization. He has also served the Nevada State Bar by taking pro bono work and has sat on the bar’s Lawyer Referral and Information Services committee.

For the past 45 years, Welt has served as the General Counsel for the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. He is the library district’s institutional memory as he works daily with their staff to resolve issues. He helped build 27 libraries, coordinated with counsel on 1st and 2nd Amendment issues and has seen libraries change their focus to remain relevant in the electronic world.

He works daily with his daughter and partner, Tiffany Welt Doctors, to represent Nevada’s injured, sick and disabled, as they strive to attain the Social Security Disability benefits that their clients deserve.

Nevada Justice Association, formally known as Nevada Trial Lawyers, is an organization of independent lawyers who represent consumers and share the common goal of improving the civil justice system. NJA is a non-profit, educational organization that provides its membership with up-to-date knowledge and information through continuing education.

They monitor the legislative session in order to ensure that Nevadans’ access to the courts in not diminished, and they continue to educate the public regarding their individual rights and responsibilities as citizens.

NJA said that Attorney Welt "has set an example for us all, in that a career is truly most successful when we contribute to the growth of the communities in which we are privileged to participate and serve.” Welt will share the evening of honors with Christian M. Morris, Trial Lawyer of the Year and Nevada Assemblyman Ozzie E. Fumo, Consumer Advocate of the Year.
