Empowering Women in Law: Tiffany Welt Doctors and the NJA Women’s Caucus

The Women's Caucus of the Nevada Justice Association (NJA) focuses on harnessing a woman's power as a trial attorney. As trial work was traditionally a male-dominated field, NJA's Women’s Caucus focuses on promoting women in the profession by providing support, mentorship, and education to female trial lawyers by female trial lawyers at NJA's annual "Bad Ass Seminar," a seminar offered in addition to NJA's annual general conference.

Welt Law’s Tiffany Welt Doctors has been attending NJA's annual general conferences for many years. She can remember attending the conferences when she was in high school and college, accompanying her father, attorney Gerald Welt, when he was serving on the board of directors and as President of the organization, then known as Nevada Trial Lawyers Association. "There were not many woman attorneys during those years," said Ms. Doctors. "It did not even occur to me that I should go to law school and become his colleague and partner until years later. The Women's Caucus has grown much larger,” she said.

Attorney Doctors finds that sharing experiences with others can be empowering. She said that the recent "Bad Ass Seminar" shared sessions on gender bias, owning your worth, and practice management providing inspiration and suggestions on how any female attorney can grow personally and professionally. “Connecting with other women, learning from other women, and sharing ideas and resources with other women makes it an enjoyable and meaningful few days,” said Ms. Doctors.

Ms. Doctors is the only attorney in the Women's Caucus with a practice that focuses on the Social Security Disability benefits for the sick, injured and disabled. She is able to share her knowledge with others who may not know the intricacies of that type of law. In return she can learn more about the work that her colleagues provide so that she can comfortably direct clients to other attorneys. Ms. Doctors also counsels on Guardianship issues and at the continuing education programs she attends, is able to take back to her office the newest information available so that she can best serve her clients.

Ms. Doctors said that “this year I brought back the confidence and connections to add another practice area to the firm.” She looks forward to rolling out that announcement in the weeks ahead.
